Am I overreacting to his response

For context, we’ve had an on and off again situationship for about 3 years now. We were good friends before in high school and developed something more. During this contact period he told me about his friend that made a wrong flight for the 13th of Feb instead of the 14th and he was explaining that his friend’s girlfriend was mad at him. I simply expressed my view that she has a right to feel that way but she doesn’t have a right to act out in a toxic manner. Honestly I didn’t really care about their problem but for the sake of conversation I gave my 2 cents. When he called me unintelligent and dumb, I backed out. (Slides 1 and 2) After this I went no contact and he reached out after a couple of days trying to talk again but it ended in another argument.
